WHAT DOES IT DO?

OCTAVE delivers an access control platform through a trusted voice authentication service for use in data-sensitive and mission-critical applications in actual business/commercial environments. OCTAVE relieves users from the inconvenience of textual passwords and reduces the economic and practical burden on service providers regarding password loss and recovery. The OCTAVE platform is based on state-of-the-art speaker verification technologies that offer effective robustness against environmental variability and various types of spoofing, thanks to detection of fraudsters impersonating other users.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

From a user’s perspective, biometric systems perform a conceptually simple task: recognition of persons. However, their implementation is generally highly complex. The general approach involves the enrolment of a person in the system and the learning of a biometric model. At the time of use, a new biometric sample is compared to the model. The biometric system will then decide if the new sample is sufficiently close to the model in order to confirm (or not) the person’s identity. In the case of speech, the biometric model is sometimes referred to as a voiceprint.

WHAT IS A VOICEPRINT?

Hundreds of different voice characteristics can be measured. Some of these characteristics can be used to identify the speaker. It is the role of the voiceprint to capture these in a compact form suitable for biometric recognition. The voiceprint usually takes the form of a manifold model, which supports the application of sophisticated pattern recognition techniques to deliver the best possible performance.

HOW SAFE IS IT TO SHARE MY VOICEPRINT?

Your voiceprint is biometric data, and we take due care of it. Your voiceprint carries characteristics unique to your person. However, it is by no means a sample of your voice, rather a string of digits, resulting from irreversible computation (hashing algorithms), totally useless to hackers. Nevertheless, it is stored in a secured server and no one knows that the voiceprint is associated with your person, not even the OCTAVE platform itself! As strange as it may sound, this results from adopting front-edge technologies in computing and networking, plus “security by design” principles. Still not persuaded? Rest assured that the OCTAVE platform complies with EU legislation and related directives for the collection, storage, and protection of personal data.

DOES IT ALWAYS WORK?

Voice biometrics has shown considerable effectiveness in diverse access control scenarios and also has the potential to protect against fraud (spoofing). Voice biometrics offers a potentially more reliable and convenient means of identity verification than that provided by PINs, passwords, tokens and/or other authentication means used on the Internet.

WHY SHOULD YOU USE IT?

Voice biometrics is inherently more efficient and convenient than alternative authentication methods that require users to remember or keep something that can be forgotten, misplaced, shared, stolen or otherwise compromised. OCTAVE exploits the advantages of voice biometrics, and in addition provides strong protection from malicious attacks, through the use of advanced security provisions.
